ELECTION SECURITY-MICROSOFT

Microsoft is announcing an ambitious effort intended to make U.S. voting more secure and verifiable. The software kit is being developed with Galois, an Oregon-based company. A spinoff of Galois called Free & Fair developed the sophisticated postelection audits , known as “risk-limiting,” for Colorado, which was the first U.S. state to require the audits recommended in the National Academies of Sciences report. COLORADO-WALTON TRAILS _ The family that owns Walmart Inc. plans to construct public trails on their private land in Colorado. The Aspen Times reports that members of the Walton family expect to begin construction this summer on more than four miles of trails on their property in Coal Basin.

COLORADO-TOURIST TRAIN _ A Colorado tourist railroad has commenced service, bringing hope to businesses that have been isolated by weather events. The Durango Herald reports that the first Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad engine of 2019 arrived Saturday in Silverton, depositing dozens of tourists in the mountain town.

POLYGAMOUS SECT-BURGLARY_ A Colorado man who burglarized a polygamous compound in southwestern South Dakota has been sentenced to three years of probation. The Rapid City Journal reports that 29-year-old Wade Bird, of Sugar City, Colorado, pleaded guilty to drug, burglary and theft conspiracy charges.

JUVENILE DETENTION ESCAPE _ Authorities are looking for two teens who escaped from a juvenile detention center near Denver, apparently using bed sheets to climb down from a broken window.
