Massachusetts woman faces murder charge in death of niece
QUINCY, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts woman originally charged with assault and battery in connection with the death of her 11-month-old niece is now facing a murder charge.
The Norfolk district attorney says 28-year-old Shu Hsu was arrested on the upgraded charge on Tuesday.
Hsu, of Weymouth, was originally charged in March with assault and battery on a child causing serious bodily injury in the death of Chloe Chen. She pleaded not guilty and was free on $200,000 bail.
Prosecutors say they decided to charge her with murder after getting additional information Monday from the medical examiner.
Prosecutors say Hsu was Chloe’s sole caregiver when the child was injured Feb. 15. The baby died at the hospital two days later.
A defense attorney previously said Hsu has fully cooperated with investigators.
