2 die in western Massachusetts car crash
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — One of the two men who died in a head-on car crash in West Springfield late last week has been identified as key member of the western Massachusetts music scene.
Police said Sunday that 50-year-old Jeff Martell, of Northampton, and 24-year-old Benjamin Stulpin, of Springfield, died in the crash Friday afternoon on Route 20. Family and friends tell The Daily Hampshire Gazette that Martell was a folk singer and songwriter who was on his way to New York for a gig at the time of the crash.
Martell was well known in the local music scene and a key organizer of the Green River Festival in Greenfield.
Police say one of the cars crossed the center line, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
