HP Introduces New Printers
PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) _ Hewlett-Packard Co. is introducing a new line of printers that can scan documents directly onto the Internet and print information from handheld devices and mobile phones.
The LaserJet printers unveiled Tuesday range from $399 to $1,099 and are aimed at extending Hewlett-Packard’s marketshare.
The printers work with several operating systems, including the open-source Linux system. One model for small businesses has an infrared port to receive printing instructions from mobile devices and churns out nearly twice as many pages per minute as its predecessor.
``For a technology that many people thought was very mature, there’s a lot of innovation here to go to two-times performance without increasing the price,″ said George Mulhern, HP’s vice president and general manager of imaging and printing solutions.
HP shares lost $1.19, nearly 4 percent, to $29.31 on the New York Stock Exchange, joining other stocks in a selloff following the Federal Reserve’s decision to only cut interest rates by 0.50 percentage point.
