Train derailment closes Florence overpass
FLORENCE, S.C. -- Rail cars used to transport cement product shifted on the rails as they went under the MLK Overpass in Florence early Friday morning and struck the bridge.
Florence County Emergency Management Division spokesman Levi James said the bridge has been closed as a precaution to allow SCDOT engineers to inspect it to make sure it is structurally sound.
James said no injuries were reported in the incident, which happened about 4 a.m.
Florence Police expect to release more information on the incident as it becomes available.
