Mother given 12 years in prison for infant’s death
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — A 25-year-old mother has been sentenced in Southeast District Court to 12 years in prison for the death of her 4-month-old baby.
Justice Lange agreed to a plea arrangement and was given 10 years for negligent homicide and two years for child neglect Monday.
Prosecutors say Lange used methamphetamine and drove a pickup truck to Stutsman County last June where she stayed in a marsh area with her child, Tyr, who died of starvation.
Because the judge departed from the recommendations of the attorneys during sentencing, Lange has 2 days to reconsider the plea deal. If she rejects it, a jury trial on the charges could be scheduled.
