Jim Jefferies: Comedian keeps it real (funny)

October 12, 2018

If you have ever heard Jim Jefferies share what happened when he asked a 16-year-old Justin Bieber to surprise his niece with a phone call, then you know why he’s one of the top five touring comedians in the world.

The man knows how to tell a story and get laughs.

In the case of the Bieber incident, Jefferies knew (or so he thought) his niece was a “Belieber” (a fan of the pop star). But his attempt to score some awesome uncle points with her did not go well. The word “awkward” comes to mind.

When Jefferies reached her by phone in Australia, with the singer-songwriter at his side to get in on the chat, he started the conversation by saying he recalled she was a big Bieber fan. She jumped in with, “I hate him now, I like One Direction!”

Jefferies, who is known for his hilarious, thought-provoking comedy, will perform at Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, Oct. 26. No doubt he’ll cover a wide range of subjects. President Donald Trump may even be in the mix. When he was running for office, saying such things as Mexico will build a border wall, Jefferies compared him to a kid running for school president — promising a soda machine in every classroom.

Netflix is where you can check out Jefferies’ newest comedy special, “Jim Jefferies: This Is Me Now.” The comedian keeps it real, opening up about the challenges of being a single father, and the weirdest gig he’s ever played. You can also enjoy his humor on Comedy Central’s “The Jim Jefferies Show,” the second season of which premiered in March.

Mohegan Sun Arena, 1 Mohegan Sun Blvd., Uncasville. Friday, Oct. 26, 8 p.m. $45, $30. 800-745-3000, mohegansun.com
