IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) _ Filmmaker Oliver Stone blames a new novel for his failure at Yale.

In a lecture at the University of Iowa on Wednesday night, Stone said he was failing his courses at Yale because he was devoting his time to writing a novel, which eventually became the recently released ``A Child's Night Dream.''

When confronted by a dean, Stone said, ``Well, I guess I'll quit.''

Stone then told the more than 1,900 people who attended his lecture ``I urge you not to.''

Stone, 51, is on the road promoting the novel, which he began as a 19-year-old student at Yale and recently finished. Stone's latest film, ``U-Turn,'' opens Friday.
