Woman found on Springfield sidewalk died of natural causes
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Authorities have determined that an 18-year-old woman who died after being found unconscious on a Springfield sidewalk died of natural causes.
The woman was found on the sidewalk with minor head trauma on Tuesday morning. She was taken to a hospital where she later died.
Police say she was on her way to catch a bus for her first day of college classes.
Investigators at first thought she was the victim of a hit and run, but later said there was no evidence she was struck by a vehicle. There was also no evidence she was assaulted.
Police said Wednesday that an autopsy determined she died of natural causes, although the exact reason was not disclosed.
Her name has not been made public because no crime was committed.
