One person dies in Dillon after falling off the hood of a car

DILLON, S.C. -- One person has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in the wake of a Jan. 1 incident in Dillon during which a person was reported “being on the hood of a vehicle while the vehicle was driving south on (US) 301 through the city limits.”

Following reports of the person on the hood of a car, Dillon Police responded to reports of a person in the road at the intersection of South 10th Avenue and Calhoun Street, according to a release issued Monday by the agency.

June Grippy, 54, of Dillon County, died as a result of injuries suffered in the incident, said Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley.

Dillon Police arrested charged Phillip Turner with voluntary manslaughter, according to the release.

Dillon County Sheriff’s Office and Mullins Police assisted in the investigation.
