Regional Employee of the Year: Leah Perry
CHELMSFORD -- The School Nutrition Association has named Chelmsford High School cafeteria employee Leah Perry as its Northeast Region Employee of the Year.
Each year, the national nonprofit organization recognizes outstanding school nutrition employees who exhibit a remarkable commitment to their school meal program and the students they serve.
“Through her hard work, dedication and enthusiasm, it’s clear that Leah Perry is truly dedicated to child nutrition,” SNA President Gay Anderson said in a statement. “She continues to go above and beyond her food service duties, helping to create a healthy and happy environment for her students and fellow staff members.”
According to SNA, Perry has been described as the “anchor” of her department and “an ultimate team player.” She has been instrumental in creating a welcoming atmosphere for students and staff, and often fills in at other schools.
Perry helped to create the popular Snack Shack Room at the high school, where she played music, dressed up on school spirit days and used student feedback to customize options. Many students requested to have their photo taken with her at the end of their senior year.
When the school district expanded the satellite breakfast program, Perry was instrumental in the planning. She made suggestions on travel routes and delivery schedules that helped eliminate travel and production challenges, allowing additional time for food preparation.
In a Monday statement, U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan recognized Perry and Sandra Hillson, cafeteria manager at the Lincoln School in Lincoln, who was named the SNA Northeast Region Manager of the Year.
“I am proud of Leah and Sandra’s outstanding commitment to providing excellence in nutrition to students in our community,” Trahan said in a statement. “Proper nutrition is absolutely critical to students’ ability to thrive both inside of the classroom and out. Every student deserves to have access to healthy, nutritious meals to power their development.”
Perry and the other national, regional and state-level award winners will be honored July 14 during the Red Carpet Awards Ceremony at the SNA’s 73rd Annual National Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.”
