Football | Stunning rally boosts Kingsland
WINONA — Winless football teams aren’t supposed to overcome huge deficits on the road, but that’s exactly what Kingsland did Friday at Winona Cotter.
The Knights trailed 30-6 midway through the second quarter, but then something happened. The defense stiffened and the offense found its groove, rattling off 27 unanswered points to give Kingsland a stunning 33-30 victory.
Kingsland quarterback William Jahn threw a touchdown pass to Reid Kruegel for what would prove to be the game-winning score.
Cotter had two chances late, but Kingsland converted on fourth-and-13 when the punter bobbled the snap, then completed a pass for the first down. Later in the drive, Kingsland actually got a punt off, but the Cotter returner fumbled, with Kingsland recovering to seal the win.
Kingsland (1-5) hosts Goodhue next week, while Cotter (0-6) is at Southland.
