Uber driver charged with raping passenger
WRENTHAM, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts woman told police her Uber driver raped her, but his attorney says his client has been falsely accused.
Police say 33-year-old Melvin Guerrero-Encarna, of Lynn, raped the woman in his car in Wrentham after picking her up on April 28.
The Sun Chronicle reports defense lawyer Robert Carmel-Montes said at Tuesday’s arraignment the encounter was consensual.
A police report says the woman left a party in Franklin and told her Uber driver she was intoxicated.
After arriving at a friend’s house, the woman told her friend she thought she had sex with her driver.
The report says she was bruised and complained of back pain.
Carmel-Montes says the woman was “lucid” during a conversation with his client.
Guerrero-Encarna pleaded not guilty and was held without bail.
