CARIBOU, Maine (AP) — The National Weather Service says Maine is about to experience the coldest temperatures in three years.

Forecasters say the wind chill could make it feel 45 degrees below zero Friday in parts of northern Maine.

A wind chill warning has been issued for most of the state. But it's already been plenty cold: WAGM-TV says Caribou hit 28 below early Thursday, breaking the old record of minus-20 for the date.

Southern Maine got up to a foot of snow, enough to push the season's snow total to about 3 feet in Portland.

The weather service said the strongest gust reported at the Portland International Jetport was 32 mph. There were at least 200 power outages, a far cry from the 160,000 outages from last week's ice storm.
