Julie Swetnick, third Kavanaugh accuser, gives first on-camera interview

September 27, 2018

Julie Swetnick, the third woman to come forward with allegations against Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, gave her first on-camera interview about the accusations.

Ms. Swetnick spoke with John Heilemann from Showtimes’ “The Circus” about why she came forward so late in the nomination process.

“Morning Joe” showed a preview of the interview Thursday morning, but the full conversation will air Sunday on Showtime. It is the first time any of the women with allegations against Judge Kavanaugh have spoken on camera.

“Well, it wasn’t that I wanted to come out one day before the hearings,” she said. Ms. Swetnick is being represented by Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for porn star Stormy Daniels. “Circumstances brought it out that way. This is something that occurred a long time ago. It’s not that I just thought about it. It’s been on my mind ever since the occurrence.”

She argued that all of the allegations she put forward should be disqualifying for Judge Kavanaugh and once again called for an FBI investigation into his past behavior.

“He’s going to have that seat for the rest of his life. If he is going to have that seat legitimately, all of these things should be investigated,” Ms. Swetnick said. “Because from what I experienced first-hand, I don’t think he belongs on the Supreme Court.

Ms. Swetnick submitted an affidavit Wednesday to the Senate Judiciary Committee detailing the graphic allegations of sexual assault and misconduct she claims to have witnessed Judge Kavanaugh commit at multiple high school parties.

She said Judge Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge were involved in “spiking” girls’ drinks so they could later be “gang raped” by multiple boys. Ms. Swetnick said she was a victim of one of these attacks and that both Mr. Judge and Judge Kavanaugh “were present.”

Judge Kavanaugh strongly denied such allegations on Thursday.

“This is ridiculous and from the ‘Twilight Zone.’ I don’t know who this is, and this never happened,” Judge Kavanaugh said.
