Dust Devils fall 65-30
MOHAVE VALLEY — Junior guard Nate Vargas led the Dust Devils with 12 points, but the Knights scored a lot more than that during River Valley High School’s road loss Monday night.
The Knights players did not roll out the red carpet for their guests, as they topped the Dust Devils 65-30 at Lake Havasu High School during River Valley’s season-opening boys basketball game.
Havasu double and triple teamed River Valley 6-foot-3-inch sophomore center Andrew Rodriguez, which helped the Knights limit the Dust Devils’ post player to eight points.
“The kids played hard,” said first-year River Valley head boys basketball coach Dan Powell by cell phone. “It was a learning experience because everything is different than a year ago.”
The Arizona Interscholastic Association nonconference loss dropped the Dust Devils’ record to 0-1 overall, 0-0 in the 3A West Region, and the the victory improved the Knights’ record to 2-0 overall, 0-0 in the 4A West Valley Region.
