ARETHA FRANKLIN WILLS _ THREE OF THEM _ SURFACE

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — You can find a lot of things under a typical living room cushion: keys, the missing TV remote, stray coins. What turned up under some cushions at Aretha Franklin’s house may turn out be worth more than a few cents to her kin: a will. The will, handwritten in a spiral notebook, was pulled out from under a cushion. And an attorney for the late Queen of Soul says it’s now up to a court in Michigan to make heads or tails of what’s in the document _ as well as two others found in her house. The other two were pulled out of a locked cabinet once the keys were tracked down. David Bennett says a hearing on that is set for next month.

ARETHA FRANKLIN - WHERE THERE’S A WILL ...

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — Ever since she died, we were left under the impression that Aretha Franklin died without a will. Now it appears that not only did she have one, she had three. That information is coming from Franklin’s longtime attorney, David Bennett. He says all three were found in Franklin’s Detroit area home months after she died _ and all were handwritten. The most recent is dated March, 2014. He says all have been submitted to a court and shared with Franklin’s relatives and/or their representatives. But he says so far there’s no deal on whether any should be considered valid. Meanwhile, a statement from Franklin’s estate says two of the late singer’s sons object to the wills.

GAME OF THRONES _ RATINGS AND GOOFS

LOS ANGELES (AP) — HBO has been around for a long time _ nearly four decades. And now, it has posted the biggest audience of any single event it has ever aired. It should be no surprise what that event is: the “Game of Thrones” series finale. The Sunday episode attracted 19.3 million viewers. It may have also set a record for most modern-day gaffes in a series set 400 years in the past. The second and most recent was Sunday _ when a plastic water bottle was spotted at the feet of a character. Earlier in the final season, a paper coffee cup _ like the kind you’d get at a takeout joint _ showed up on a table during a scene.

FOR AUTHOR, ‘GAME OF THRONES?’ FINALE WAS ENDING, BUT ALSO BEGINNING

NEW YORK (AP) — What’s next for “Game of Thrones?” The author, whose work was adapted into the HBO series which drew a record-setting number of viewers for Sunday’s finale, says it’s “been a wild ride.” George RR Martin wrote on Monday that it “was an ending, but it was also a beginning.” The 70-year-old says he’s working on the next installment, “The Winds of Winter.” He says he knows it’s late “but it will be done.” He’s just not saying when, and that “A Dream of Spring” will follow. Martin says people ask will it have the same ending as the show or will it be different. Martin writes: “Well. yes. And no.” He says he’ll write it, people can read it and then everyone can “argue about it on the internet.”

RECREATING ‘ALADDIN’S’ MAGIC WITH WILL SMITH AND FRESH FACES

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Walt Disney Co. is inviting audiences to travel back to the mythical city of Agrabah in its live-action update of its 1992 animated classic ‘Aladdin,’ which opens in theaters nationwide on Friday. Will Smith follows in the footsteps of the late Robin Williams to play the Genie in the adventure-musical. Smith says he was terrified at first at taking on the role. The filmmakers and stars had to do a delicate dance of paying homage to the animated classic while also adding a modern spin to the story, including casting ethnically appropriate leads and giving the character of Jasmine more agency. “Aladdin” is not the only Disney live-action remake on the horizon either, ‘The Lion King’ will follow in July.

SENTENCING TODAY FOR EX-“THE BACHELOR” CONTESTANT

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (AP) — Today a man who was on “The Bachelor” will face the possibility of being a new reality: “the prisoner.” Chris Soules is to be sentenced in a case in which he plowed into the rear of a tractor near his Iowa farm a couple of years ago, killing a neighbor farmer. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of leaving the scene of a serious injury accident. It could have been worse, but Soules reached a deal. Prosecutors say after rear-ending his neighbor’s tractor, he called 911 and administered first aid to the victim. But he left after first-responders got there _ and before police showed up.

STEVEN VAN ZANDT AVOIDS POLITICS IN NEW ALBUM

NEW YORK (AP) — Steven Van Zandt usually isn’t shy about calling out politicians who irk him. But he says his new album is looking to appeal, not to red or blue _ but to purple. He says tried to “stay as nonpartisan” as possible in “Summer of Sorcery,” something he says might be an adjustment for his hardcore fans. Van Zandt says he doesn’t want to add musical fuel to the political fire in this country. He says he feels the U.S. is “heading toward a civil war” _ and figures focusing on partying not partisanship is best. Van Zandt says he wants his concerts in support of his new album to be a safe zone for people of all political stripes.

“FOX”-Y DEMOCRATS RIGHT-SWIPING FOX?

WASHINGTON (AP) — If you listen to the nighttime hosts on Fox News, you’d know there’s little chance they’re about to “break-up” with their main political squeeze, President Donald Trump. But there are signs that maybe Fox wants to see other people. In recent weeks, Fox has given forums to some Democratic presidential candidates, including Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar (KLOH’-buh-shar) and Pete Buttigieg (BOO’-tuh-juhj). That hasn’t gone unnoticed by Trump, who beefed about his favorite network at a campaign rally yesterday in Pennsylvania. He says “something strange” is happening when Fox has more Democrats on than Republicans.

NEW COKE-STRANGER THINGS

NEW YORK (AP) _ New Coke is making a comeback as part of Coca-Cola’s partnership with the Netflix drama “Stranger Things.” Season 3 of “Stranger Things” will be set in the summer of 1985, why? Well, New Coke was considered one of the biggest marketing mistakes when it was launched in 1985 and it was dropped after 79 days. Coca-Cola will release a limited number of New Coke cans Thursday as part of a “Stranger Things” package. The company had to retrieve the New Coke recipe from its safe. Workers also had to recreate the logo and the slightly different Coke red for the cans from more than three decades ago.

ALABAMA PUBLIC TELEVISION WON’T RUN ‘ARTHUR’ GAY WEDDING

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Alabama Public Television has chosen not to air an episode of the PBS children’s show “Arthur” that includes a same-sex wedding. The episode “Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone” aired nationally on May 13, showing the wedding of Arthur’s teacher and his partner. APT showed a re-run instead. AL.com reports that APT’s programming director said parents trust their children to be able to watch the station unsupervised. The station had previously pulled an episode of “Arthur” in 2005 when a character had two mothers. Misty Souder, a substitute teacher from McCalla, Alabama, says she’s disappointed. She says she’s using this to teach her 9-year-old daughter about the importance of standing up for minority groups.
