Police: 5 arrests made on nighttime hunting, other charges
DOVER, Del. (AP) — Delaware police say at least five arrests were made for alleged illegal nighttime hunting excursions in mid-November.
The Delaware State News quotes state Fish and Wildlife Natural Resources Police in a Wednesday report as saying one case was in Kent County, and another in Sussex County. Sgt. Brooke Mitchell says the arrests were part of a year-round effort to thwart poaching.
Some charges in the arrests included underage alcohol consumption, hunting deer during a closed season, hunting at night, unlicensed hunting, trespassing, shooting within 15 yards (14 meters) of a public roadway and hunting from a motor vehicle.
Eighteen and 19-year-old defendants were arraigned and released on unsecured bonds pending a future appearance in Kent County Court of Common Pleas. In Sussex, a 23-year-old and a 47-year-old were similarly released.
