La. Tech’s Ray-Boyd Loses Consciousness
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Louisiana Tech reserve guard Aarica Ray-Boyd fell hard to the court trying to block a shot and lost consciousness for about 45 seconds before being taken away by ambulance late in Sunday’s game against No. 3 Tennessee.
Ray-Boyd leaped high to try to block a shot by Tennessee’s Dominique Redding with 1:05 left. She lay motionless for several minutes while trainers from both teams and the coaches stood over her, and finally moved her arms and blinked.
Louisiana Tech coach Kurt Budke said Ray-Boyd was hit in the forehead by Redding’s elbow.
``We don’t have an update,″ Budke said. ``We think she’s going to be OK.″
Ray-Boyd was strapped to a board, wheeled from the court and taken to nearby University of Tennessee Medical Center.
When play resumed about 10 minutes later, the players either stood with the ball or dribbled to run out the clock. The third-ranked Lady Vols beat No. 10 Louisiana Tech 85-65.
Ray-Boyd, a sophomore from Texarkana, Texas, had a 3-pointer in the game.
