SANTA YNEZ, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a pilot has been killed after a small plane crashed in the Southern California mountains.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office says the wreckage of the single-engine Aviat plane was spotted early Thursday in a remote area.

Crews hiked a steep ridgeline near Figueroa Mountain and found the wreckage and the pilot’s body.
