Lakewood family loves sharing ‘Stewie’ stories: Send us your pet rescue stories

LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- After seeing an article on Cleveland.com, I felt compelled to introduce you to my family dog, Stewie the Yorkie Poo. My parents (Candace and Terry), sister (Mary) and brother (Johnny) were lucky enough to find Stewie at the Cleveland animal shelter in November 2007, and he continues to live with my parents at our family home in Lakewood.

We were told that Stewie was found near the Dumpsters by Steel Yard Commons, which broke our hearts. His fur was overgrown and in knots and he was as skinny as could be. We took one look at him and knew he was ours.

We believe he is about 13 years old, but there is no way to be sure. Especially since he still acts like a puppy most of the time. He has a personality that can only be described as unique. He is loud and crazy, but also soft and snuggly.

His favorite activities include playing with all his stuffed animal toys (chicken, dragon, fish, etc.), long and fast walks, jumping in the bathtub to lick up all of the leftover water that drips from the faucet, and waiting patiently for the mailman to show up every day.

My family has so many Stewie stories -- too many to count. Although all of us kids have since gone to college, graduated and moved on to new homes, Stewie will always be our fluffy little brother who we can’t wait to go home and see.
