Beatrice man arrested after stealing pickup twice
A Beatrice man was arrested on felony theft charges after stealing a pickup for the second time Tuesday and leaving its trailer in Lincoln, according to court documents.
Marshall D. Burger, 24, was arrested for theft and driving under suspension Tuesday after a Beatrice police officer on 11th street spotted Burger driving a red and white pickup that had been reported stolen.
On Sunday, the pickup and its attached trailer was reported stolen from the 1200 block of Grant St. The next day, the pickup was found in the parking garage located on the South 100 block of Sixth Street.
The trailer and tools inside the trailer were missing, and the owner could not retrieve the vehicle because he had no keys for it, an arrest affidavit reads.
Then, on Tuesday, officers spotted Burger driving the pickup on 11th street.
Officers later found the pickup parked in the 1200 block of Scott St. and arrested Burger at his residence in the 400 block S. 9th St.
According to the arrest affidavit, Burger drove the pickup to Lincoln and left the trailer behind a Walmart on North 27th Street. He then parked the pickup in the Sixth Street parking garage in Beatrice, the affidavit reads.
Burger then went to retrieve his phone he left in the pickup, taking the vehicle again and parking it in the 1200 block of Scott St.
Lincoln police officers found the trailer where Burger said he had left it, with tools missing from it.
Burger was also charged in the theft of a van from July near 10th and Holbrook streets that was later recovered.
The combined value of the stolen pickup, the van, trailer and tools is over $8,800.
Burger was lodged in the Gage County Jail, with bond set at $25,000. He is expected to appear in court on Aug. 31.
