Foundation awarding grants to help boost voter participation
NORWALK, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut foundation is offering $1,000 grants to nonprofit agencies that want to improve voter information and increase voter registration among underrepresented voters in Fairfield County.
The nonpartisan “Get Out the Vote” initiative is being offered by Fairfield County’s Community Foundation. Eligible organizations must support voter registration in general, not just with a certain political party or candidate. The grant cannot be used to endorse or denounce a candidate or party.
Possible activities include enlisting new voters to sign “pledge to vote” cards, updating voter registration rolls, or signing up new voters.
Mendi Blue-Paca, the foundation’s vice president of community impact, says the grants will bolster organizations that are giving a voice to individuals who are “underrepresented in the political process.”
The deadline for applications is July 27.
