Robbers plow truck into Maryland stores, grab cash machines
SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Criminals in Washington D.C.’s Maryland suburbs are hauling off cash-packed automatic teller machines from convenience stores.
WJLA reports that two 7-Eleven stores in Silver Spring were robbed in smash-and-grab style in the past week.
Police say in the more recent theft, two masked robbers dressed in black hoodies walked into the store around 3 a.m. Thursday and told the workers to lay on the floor.
A third suspect then rammed a pickup truck through the front of the store near the ATM located inside. The suspects loaded the ATM onto the truck and escaped.
The shopkeepers were unharmed.
The robberies Thursday and Tuesday are similar to a number of ATM robberies in the Washington metro area.
