Crosby’s OT goal lifts Penguins past Canadiens 2-1

MONTREAL (AP) — Sidney Crosby scored a power-play goal 3:41 into overtime to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins over the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 on Saturday.

Evgeni Malkin also scored for the Penguins, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves.

Max Pacioretty scored the lone goal for the Canadiens, who have lost two consecutive games after winning nine of their previous 10. Carey Price stopped 35 shots.

Washington’s John Carlson and Joel Ward scored in the second period, and Braden Holtby stopped 26 shots as the Capitals beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-1.

Troy Brouwer also scored for Washington.

Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard, named to his second NHL All-Star game earlier Saturday, left early in the first period with a groin injury after attempting to make the save on Brouwer’s goal. Howard finished with two saves.

At Philadelphia, rookie David Pastrnak scored his first two career NHL goals to lead the Boston Bruins over the Flyers 3-1.

Chris Kelly added a short-handed goal for Boston, which won its third straight.

Claude Giroux scored for Philadelphia, which fell further out of the Eastern Conference playoff race. Jakub Voracek, who entered leading the NHL with 49 points, assisted Giroux’s goal.

The Colorado Avalanche edged the Dallas Stars 4-3 after Nathan MacKinnon broke a second-period deadlock and Semyon Varlamov stopped 37 shots.

Erik Johnson, John Mitchell and Matt Duchene also scored as the Avalanche won for the fifth time in six games to leapfrog Dallas in the Central Division standings.

Nashville’s Calle Jarnkrok scored a tiebreaking goal early in the third period in the Predator’s 3-1 win over the Minnesota Wild.

Mike Fisher and Colin Wilson also scored for Nashville and has a league-best 60 points. Pekka Rinne made 36 saves.

Brian Strait had a goal and an assist as the New York Islanders used a three-goal second period to power past the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2, and five Ottawa players scored as the Senators ended a three-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes.

In other games, the St. Louis Blues beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4 in a shootout, the Calgary Flames blanked the Vancouver Canucks 1-0, the Texas Rangers downed the San Jose Sharks 3-1 and the Winnipeg Jets edged the Los Angeles Kings 5-4 in a four-round shootout.
