Police Department Will Soon Have Services of K9 Unit
FITCHBURG — For the first time in at least 20 years the Police Department will soon have the services of “Hangos,” a German shepard K9 unit.
Born in Hungary, Hangos (pronounced “hun-gos”) and his handler, Officer Joshua Lambert, have been made possible by a $25,000 grant from The Stanton Foundation that provides the money to establish new K9 units at police departments throughout the country.
“We’ve been looking at this over the last couple of years,” police Capt. Matthew Lemay said about the department’s acquisition.
The unit will be overseen by police Capt. Harry Hess, who was responsible for securing the grant from the foundation.
