Toddler in Stolen Car Found Safe

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (AP) _ A 2-year-old girl who was in the back seat of a car stolen outside a convenience store early Tuesday was found safe hours later in Virginia, police reported.

Elizabeth Calvin told police she left her car running while she went into the store to ask a question early Tuesday morning, and she saw a man drive off with the car and her daughter, Mariah Poland.

A statewide Amber Alert was issued for the little girl.

Hours later, Mariah was found unharmed in the abandoned car in Richmond, Va., a more than 110-mile drive up Interstate 95, according to the state Department of Crime Control and Public Safety.

No arrests had been made.
