PROSSER, Wash. (AP) — Officials say the longtime Prosser School District superintendent is on paid leave.

A news release from the school district Thursday afternoon says the district and Superintendent Ray Tolcacher are currently negotiating his contract and retirement.

Tolcacher had previously announced plans to retire later this year or next.

The Tri-City Herald reports ( ) Tolcacher could not be reached for comment.

Calls from the newspaper to the superintendent's office were referred to the assistant superintendent of teaching and learning, but officials said details about who is in charge are still in flux.
