FITCHBURG -- Bay State Brawlers Roller Derby (BSBRD) is offering a 16 class non-contact program that will prepare new recruits to learn to play or officiate roller derby.

The classes start on March 27 at Roll On America in Lancaster.

The Brawlers teach recruits everything they need to know to get started, beginning with the basics, like how to gear up and how to skate, stop, and fall safely. No previous skating experience is required. Just bring enthusiasm and protective gear and the Brawlers will help with the rest.

New recruit intake occurs monthly, usually the final Wednesday of each month. Dates will be posted the group’s Facebook page and emailed to registrants. There are only 10 spots each month for skaters and skating officials, booked on a first-come, first-served basis.

The fee for the new recruit program is $90, which non-refundable, but may be applied toward a future class.

BSBRD is Central Massachusetts’ premiere nonprofit women’s roller derby league. A skater-operated Massachusetts nonprofit organization, 2019 is BSBRD’s eighth season playing competitive roller derby and its third season as an internationally-ranked member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). In that time the league is proud to have become the second most highly-ranked WFTDA league in Massachusetts.
