Westford Teenager Critically Injured After Bicycle Collides with Vehicle
WESTFORD -- A local teenager was transported to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a motor vehicle while riding his bicycle Tuesday night, police said.
Westford Deputy Police Chief Victor Neal said the victim, a 15-year-old male who lives in Westford, was riding his bicycle around 8:50 p.m., on Tuesday, near 125 Plain Road when it collided with a Buick Century traveling in the opposite direction. The 15-year-old sustained “life-threatening” injuries, Neal said.
The victim was first transported to Lowell General Hospital before being transferred to an unspecified Boston-area medical center, Neal said. No further information about his condition was immediately available Wednesday morning.
Neal said the vehicle’s driver remained on scene, as did a friend of the victim who had been with him.
A section of Plain Road near the site of the crash was closed for several hours Tuesday night as police scanned the area with flashlights.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday morning.
