Newman’s Dressing Goes To Burger Chain
MIAMI (AP) _ Actor Paul Newman will play a starring role in Burger King’s salad line, the fast-food chain announced Monday.
Newman, who sells his own all-natural salad dressing nationally, has developed five new varieties for Burger King, which will offer them along with his original ″Newman’s Own Oil & Vinegar″ for salads at its 6,000 restaurants.
″This all-natural product will help ‘shake up’ awareness of our salad line,″ said Gary Langstaff, executive vice president of marketing for Burger King. ″We were looking for a way to distinguish our salad offerings to customers.″
The salad dressings are Light Italian, Bleu Cheese, French, Thousand Island and Ranch and can be used with Burger King’s prepackaged salads: chunky chicken, chef, garden and side salads.
Burger King will promote the new salad dressings with a ″shake it up″ pogo stick competition in Huntington, Calif., May 25-26 and a national television campaign beginning Tuesday.
The TV ads feature vignettes of Newman undressing in films including ″The Sting,″ ″The Prize″ and ″Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.″ The TV ads advise viewers: ″For years, you’ve seen Paul Newman undressing. Now you can see Paul Newman dressing.″
Newman says he donates profits from his food company to charity.
