Cutler seeks re-election to council seat
La PORTE — Laura Cutler has announced her candidacy for La Porte City Council.
Cutler is currently entering her fourth year serving on City Council representing the third ward. She moved from New York City to La Porte in 2004 with her husband Thaddeus Cutler, whose family has resided in the third ward for over five generations.
“I moved to La Porte 14 years ago and have seen tremendous changes and am proud of the positive trajectory that the city is currently on and I want to help La Porte continue to move forward,” Cutler said.
Cutler received her BFA from Otis College of Art & Design, Los Angeles, California and her MFA from the New York Academy of Art, New York, New York.
She has been co-owner of the Thaddeus C. Gallery in La Porte since 2004 and serves on the Regional Arts Council for Region One of the Indiana Arts Commission, the Urban Enterprise Association Board, the Downtown Main Street and the Visual Arts Council of La Porte.
She is also liaison to City Council for the Business Improvement District and the Historic Preservation Commission.
During her first term on council she partnered with Beth Shrader, City Planner of La Porte and Mitch Feikes of Feikes Builders to bring the Joyful Noise Musical Instrument Sculptures to La Porte. Currently she is working with the Visual Art Council on the upcoming Mural Project for Plaza 618.
“I am proud of all that has happened in the third ward over the last three years — the Beechwood Golf Course clubhouse renovation, new irrigation system and Chalik Pavilion, Plaza 618 and numerous new businesses in the downtown including Salon Rogue, RQAW, Hot Spot Café and soon Bare Bones Gastropub,” Cutler said. “There is so much happening in La Porte and the third ward is a big part of it!”
