Report: Olympian Marion Jones Is Pregnant
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) _ Olympic 100-meter champion Marion Jones has told friends that she and training partner Tim Montgomery are having a baby and she won’t compete this year, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
Jones, 27, and Montgomery were said to be thrilled about the news, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Jones, who won five medals in her Olympic debut in Sydney in 2000, including three golds, waited until she was safely through the first 12 weeks of her pregnancy before telling friends, the newspaper said.
It added that an announcement was expected in the United States on Thursday.
Calls to her spokesman and her agent were not immediately returned.
Jones has always made her season debut at the Mount Sac Relays in California, scheduled for this weekend. She withdrew several weeks ago when her agent told the meet’s promoter that she was not ready to run.
She had been expected to compete in four events at the World Championships in Paris in August.
