Late Singer’s Daughter Dies After Watching Film of Him on TV
CAIRO, Egypt (AP) _ Aicha Abdel-Wahab, the daughter of Egypt’s top composer and singer, died of a heart attack after watching one of his movies, family members said Friday. She was 46.
Doctors said Miss Abdel-Wahab, who died Tuesday of a heart attack, had been deeply depressed over the death of her 90-year-old father, Mohammed Abdel- Wahab.
Abdel-Wahab, whose arrangement of an old patriotic song became Egypt’s national anthem, died May 3 and was given a military funeral at the order of President Hosni Mubarak. Abdel-Wahab wrote about 1,800 songs.
Aicha was the eldest of Abdel-Wahab’s five children by his first wife, who died a few years ago. He named Aicha after his mother, and family members said she was his favorite child.
On the eve of her fatal heart attack, they said, Miss Abdel-Wahab wept as she watched a television production of one of the seven movies in which Abdel- Wahab starred.
Aicha is survived by two daughters by two marriages that ended in divorce.
