Shirley Edel (Tholen) Meuser, 87, formerly of rural Veedersburg, Ind., passed away at the Williamsport Health and Rehabilitation Center, Williamsport, Ind., surrounded by her family, on Sunday (March 24, 2019) at 12:16 p.m., after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born Sept. 15, 1931, in Rochester, Wis., the daughter of Francis and Edel (Block) Tholen. Her parents preceded her in death.
The family moved to Gilman, where Shirley met, and on June 12, 1949, married John L. Meuser.
In 1958, John and Shirley and their children moved to south of Veedersburg, Ind.
Shirley was a homemaker and a very accomplished seamstress, making clothes for the children and grandchildren and even making wedding dresses. Later, she started her own upholstery business where she worked with her daughter, Linda. Shirley also enjoyed making quilts, inserting blocks she created on her embroidery machine.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John; and one brother, Donald.
Surviving are her brothers, Wayne (Alice) and Ray (Ginny) Tholen; sisters, Marlee Hunt, Sandy Ens, Carol (Glen) Reinegle and Norma (Dennis) Blair; three sons, David (Beth) Meuser, of Brazil, Ind.; Don (friend, Becky Lietz) Meuser, of Homosassa, Fla., and Russ (Debbie) Meuser, of Veedersburg, Ind.; two daughters, Linda (Pat) Crane, of Veedersburg, Ind., and Kerrie (Shawn) Carson, of Danville; as well as 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon Wednesday, March 27, until the 2 p.m. service at New Liberty Christian Church, 1774 S. New Liberty Road, Veedersburg, Ind., with the Rev. Ron Hatley officiating. Burial will follow in the Scott’s Prairie Cemetery, next to the Meuser Farms.
Funeral arrangements are by Maus Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Ind.
