George Washington 84, Duquesne 72

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Kwame Evans paced a balanced scoring attack with 19 points and George Washington won for the ninth time in 10 games with an 84-72 victory Wednesday over Duquesne.

The Colonials (17-5, 10-2 Atlantic 10) never trailed, jumping out to a 9-0 lead and stretching it to 38-26 at the half. They began the second half with an 18-6 run which increased the lead to 56-32 with 15:48 remaining.

Duquesne (9-14, 3-10) mounted a late rally, pulling within 77-70 on Kevin Price’s layup with 2:40 left to play, but George Washington converted five of six foul shots in the closing 55.4 seconds to seal the victory.

Vaughn Jones added 18 points for the Colonials. Alexander Koul scored 15 and Shanwnta Rogers 10.

Price led the way for the Dukes with 23 points, including 16 in the second half. Mike James had 13 points and Nick Bosnic 12.

The victory moved the Colonials into a first place tie with 12th-ranked Virginia Tech in the league’s West Division.

George Washington plays at No. 1 Massachusetts on Saturday.
