No. 19 Clemson 69, Georgia Tech 41

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) _ Nikki Blassingame had 16 rebounds and 10 points as No. 19 Clemson used strong defense to defeat Georgia Tech 69-41 Thursday night.

It was Clemson’s 250th victory in Littlejohn Coliseum and the Lady Tigers’ seventh straight victory over the Yellow Jackets, who were held to 23 percent shooting.

Clemson (19-5, 9-5 ACC) scored the first 10 points of the game as Georgia Tech (13-11, 6-8) went scoreless for more than 7 minutes.

The Yellow Jackets also started slowly in the second half, making only one basket in the first 14 minutes. They shot 17 percent in the second half.

The Lady Tigers built their largest lead, 66-33, late in the game.

The Yellow Jackets came in averaging 77 points and shooting nearly 39 percent from 3-point range. But Clemson held them to only 2-of-14 from long range (14 percent).

The Lady Tigers also won the rebounding battle, 50-31, including 20 offensive boards.

Amy Geren paced Clemson with 15 points, including 8-of-8 from the foul line. Itoro Umoh had 11 rebounds and seven assists for the Lady Tigers.

Freshman Niesha Butler led Tech with 21 points but committed seven turnovers. Danielle Donehew, leading the ACC with 77 3-pointers, was 1-of-9 from long range and finished with eight points.
