San Antonio Rampage yield late flurry in road loss

The San Antonio Rampage yielded three late goals to stifle their comeback effort in a 5-1 loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Rampage drop to 24-22-4 and 5-16-3 on the road. San Antonio is 1-1-2 to start a 10-game road trip, which continues with a rematch against Grand Rapids at 6 p.m. today. The Griffins are 29-16-7.

Rampage goalie Jared Coreau made 42 saves against 46 shots.

The Griffins scored just more than a minute into the game, then tallied again late in the period to take a 2-0 lead into intermission. Grand Rapids racked up 22 shots in the first period.

Nolan Stevens scored for San Antonio early in the second period, marking the final goal until Grand Rapids put three home in the final five minutes of the third period, including an empty-netter with two seconds remaining.

Wade Megan finished with a hat trick for the Griffins.
