Kielbasa Festival, St. John’s Parish Picnic Highlight Coming Activities On The West Side
The annual parish family picnic of St. John the Baptist Church, 126 Nesbitt St., Larksville, will be held Friday to Sunday, Aug. 10-12, on the church grounds. The Rev. Jerry Gurka and the parishioners invite the public to attend. There will be a theme basket stand, flea market, bingo, games, prizes, and ethnic and American foods, including more than 40,000 pierogies handmade by parishioners. Entertainment schedule is: 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, music by John Stevens Double Shot; 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday, music by George Tarasek preceded by Mass at 4 p.m.; 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, music by Tommy and the Original Tones from 6 to 9 p.m. and a Pierogie Wedding Story at 2 p.m. The Rev. Gurka welcomes the public. He reminds “West Side Story” readers of the brand new “Pierogie Wedding” reading presentation at 2 p.m. Sunday, and that Saturday shuttle service will be offered. Kielbasa festival time Plymouth Alive Kielbasa Festival will be held Friday, Aug. 10, and Saturday, Aug. 11, on Main Street in Plymouth. The event will include fun for the entire family, with vendors, a kielbasa contest and live entertainment. Public is welcome. Fun at Forty Fort Park Families for the Forty Fort Park has a fun event planned for your family. Do your kids have a talent they love to perform or do they love to sing? Bring them to the Forty Fort Park for a night of entertainment on Thursday, Aug. 16. If you are coming to show off your talent or have a song to sing for karaoke, you are asked to sign up at the registration table upon arrival. Sign ups begin at 6 p.m. Show starts at 6:30. Movie night The Edwardsville Hometown Committee will hold a free movie night at John Hopkins Park, High Street, Edwardsville, on Friday Sept. 7. Concession stand will be open with snacks available for purchase. Also the committee will host its inaugural “Market in the Park” event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at John Hopkins Park, Edwardsville. Rain date is Sept. 9. The event is open to the public. Vending applications are available at Hoagie Mike’s or the Edwardsville Borough Building, Main Street, Edwardsville. Night at the races Join in the fun at the Music Box Dinner Playhouse, Hughes Street, Swoyersville, on Saturday, Aug. 11, for a night at the races. Doors open at 6 p.m. First race starts at 7. Your $10 donation gets a horse in one race, food, soda and beer (for those 21 and older). The bar will also be open.
