House Fire Kills Mom, 4 Daughters

September 30, 2001

DUNDALK, Md. (AP) _ A woman and her four young daughters died in a house fire.

Relatives said Michelle Ferguson, 38, had been using the kitchen stove to heat the house. Firefighters said the fire appeared to have started in the kitchen, but its cause remained under investigation.

The blaze killed Ferguson and her daughters, whose ages were 1, 2, 9 and 11.

Ferguson’s father, Robert, said his daughter told him she recently had used the kitchen stove to heat the house because repairs on a defective furnace had been delayed.

But the owner of the property, Edmund Ogonoski Sr., said he did not know of any heating or maintenance problems at the home.

Ferguson’s only surviving daughter, Inga Ferguson, 17, went to the house Saturday with other relatives to salvage mementos.
