Mystics 63, Rockers 62

CLEVELAND (AP) _ Nikki McCray scored 25 points to lead the Washington Mystics past the Cleveland Rockers 63-62 today.

McCray, who scored just two points in the first half, hit two free throws with 21.1 seconds left to play as the Mystics held off a Cleveland rally. McCray was 10-for-21 from the field.

Chamique Holdsclaw added 23 points for the Mystics, who beat the Rockers for the first time in three games this season. The teams play again Sunday in Washington.

Merlakia Jones was Cleveland’s high scorer with 17 points. Eva Nemcova, Chasity Melvin and Mery Andrade each scored 11.

Washington broke a 27-all halftime tie with a 10-0 run to start the second half and led the rest of the way. The Rockers closed to 61-60 on two free throws by Jones with 52.8 seconds left, but McCray hit both ends of a 1-and-1 to seal it.

Cleveland’s Alisa Burras hit a layup with 3.3 seconds remaining.
