KANO, Nigeria (AP) _ Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo announced to the nation Sunday on radio that 106 people had died in the Nigerian airliner crash.

In an address to the nation, Obasanjo said ``106 passengers and people in their homes were picked up dead.″

He said flags would be flown at half staff Sunday and Monday. He cut short a visit to Botswana, and arrived in Abuja, the capital, on Sunday.

Obasanjo said he’s launching an investigation that will involve experts outside Nigeria to ``ensure an appropriate job is done.″

``People who feel they are traveling by air from A to Z in Nigeria need to know there is a certain amount of security, of safety and through the ministry of aviation this will be ensured.″
