SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ Matt Sauk ran for two touchdowns and passed for 212 yards and Demario Brown rushed 36 times for 153 yards as Utah State upset Utah 21-14 on Saturday night.

Sauk picked apart the Utah secondary in completing 19 of 30 passes as the Aggies surprised the Utes for the second year in a row. Utah State won 20-17 in last season’s opener.

On third-and-5 at the Utah 8, Sauk scrambled and dove into the end zone with 5:37 remaining to snap a 14-14 tie. Johndale Carty’s interception of Jonathan Crosswhite pass with a minute left at the Aggies 26 finished the last Utah threat.

Utah tied the game 14-14 on a 2-yard plunge by Chris Fuamatu-Ma’afala with 2:25 remaining in the third quarter. The score was set up when a punt snap sailed over Jerry Arguello’s head. Arguello kicked the ball out of bounds and the resulting penalty gave Utah a first down at the Aggies 8.

Utah State went ahead 7-0 on Sauk’s 1-yard sneak with 11:22 remaining before halftime. On the ensuing Utah possession, the Aggies stopped Fuamatu-Ma’afala a yard short on fourth down at the 48. Brown capped a nine-play, 52-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown scamper through three would-be tacklers.

Keyed by passes of 19 and 36 yards from Crosswhite to Daniel Jones, Utah drove 80 yards in eight plays to get on the board. Tai Lepule caught a 3-yard pass from Crosswhite for the score.
