Stamford police chief Fontneau to retire

January 3, 2019

STAMFORD — The retirement of police Chief Jon Fontneau will be announced later Thursday by Stamford Mayor David Martin.

Fontneau, 62, who has been chief in Stamford for six years, will begin his retirement in April.

The native Stamford has been a member of the police force in the city for 38 years and was sworn in as chief in October 2012.

At the time he told The Stamford Advocate, “”I love Stamford. Stamford is where I was raised, where I was educated, and is home to friends and family. I have enjoyed working for the Police Department these past 32 years and look forward to proudly serving Stamford as its next police chief.”

There is no word yet on who will take Fontneau’s place.
