20 Killed in Colombia Clash
BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) _ A clash between leftist guerrillas and the army left 11 soldiers and nine rebels dead in eastern Colombia on Saturday, the army said.
The combat occurred near Cumaribo, 290 miles east of the capital, Bogota, when the army unit came across rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, the nation’s largest guerrilla band.
In a different part of the country, FARC released Louise Augustine, a 63-year-old from Chillicothe, Ill., on Friday but is still holding two other Americans. They were taken in a March 23 rebel roadblock south of Bogota while on a birdwatching expedition.
Rebels, who have been fighting the state since the 1960s, have stepped up attacks on the army in the last year
