A series of dates and deadlines have been laid out in the run up to fill the now-vacant S.C. House District 84 seat.

The seat is empty following the death of state Rep. Ronnie Young, R-Clearwater.

Young died May 19. His funeral was May 24.

Candidate filing for District 84 – an area between Aiken and eastern North Augusta, stretching south beyond Jackson – opens at noon June 7, according to a post on the S.C. Election Commission website. Filing closes at noon June 15.

The primary election is scheduled for July 30. The voter registration deadline for the primary is June 30.

A primary runoff election is set for Aug. 13, and the special election is set for Oct. 1.

The deadline to register to vote in the special election is Sept. 1.
