4-year-old walking to Georgia school killed in hit-and-run

October 18, 2017

CLARKSTON, Ga. (AP) — Georgia authorities are searching for the driver of a car who fled after hitting a 4-year-old girl in a crosswalk near her school. The child later died.

DeKalb County police say the wreck happened just before 7 a.m. Wednesday near Indian Creek Elementary School in Clarkston.

Police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell is telling local media that the girl, identified as Lun Thang, was in a crosswalk with her mother and sibling when she was hit by a dark, older model vehicle — possibly a Toyota or Honda. Campbell says the child was thrown against another car. No one else was hurt.

Campbell says the driver fled after stopping momentarily. She’s asking people to alert police if they see a car with front-end damage, and appealing for the driver to surrender.
