Nashoba Cruises Past Fitchburg on Senior Night

February 9, 2019

BOLTON -- On a night when the three Nashoba Regional seniors were recognized, it was a pair of juniors who stole the show.

Caylie McMahon knocked down five shots from behind the arc for a game-high 23 points and classmate Abby McNulty scored 19 points as the Nashoba girls’ basketball team cruised to a 63-15 Mid-Wach B league victory over the visitors from Fitchburg High on Friday night.

With the win, the Chieftains ran their record to 16-2 overall and 7-0 in league play, while the Red Raiders fell to 1-16 and 0-7 in Mid-Wach B action.

“Caylie (McMahon) and Abby (McNulty) are both great athletes,” said Nashoba head coach Tina Seabury. “They are the type of players where their motors just don’t stop. On most nights, their defense leads to offense. We are starting to share the ball and our offense is clicking, so I think that we are going to start making a statement.”

The hosts wasted no time taking control in this one as McMahon and McNulty were aggressive early on. McNulty scored 13 points and McMahon added 11 over the first eight minutes as Nashoba opened a 25-2 lead after one quarter.

McMahon remained hot in the second quarter as she ended up knocking down 3-pointers in the opening half for 17 points. McNulty added 15 in the first half as the two combined for 32 of the team’s 41 points. Nashoba held a 41-7 lead over Fitchburg at hafltime.

Seniors Julia Roth (2 points), Brie Donahue (4 points) and Holly Tremblay (2 points) all started on Senior Night.

“Last year coming in they were pretty welcoming to me,” Seabury said of the seniors. “They were leaders on and off the court as juniors. They do the right thing, whether it be is in practice, school or outside of the building.”

For Fitchburg, Rachel Romero and Siena Armano led the Red Raiders, scoring four points apiece.
