Snow be gone: Washington State crews clear Martin Stadium field at halftime of Apple Cup

November 24, 2018

PULLMAN – While they are not exactly a Zamboni, which might be better, Washington State employed a tractor and a pickup-snow plow to remove the snow from the field at halftime with Washington leading 14-7 on Friday at Martin Stadium.

Once the band exited stage left, the plow crews began work of allowing fans to again see the yard lines and end zones in the 111th Apple Cup.

As a result of the snow, quarterback phenon Gardner Minshew looked a lot like a kid from Mississippi playing in snow for the first time.

He finished the first half with an interception in the end zone after the Cougars recovered a fumbled kickoff with 28 second remaining in the half.

For the half, Minshew finished with 17 of 22 passing for 96 yards and a touchdown. In comparison, Jake Browning was 5 of 6 passing for 116 yards and one interception.

As long as Myles Gaskin, 14 carries for 64 yards and two touchdowns, can get footing on the snow, the Cougars long night could get much longer.
