Dolan B. Condie
1927 — 2018
Dolan Boyle Condie peacefully passed away on September 11, 2018 in Cedar Hills, Utah at the age of 91. Dolan was born in Los Angeles, California on September 6, 1927 to Dolan Bryant and Ada Boyle Condie.
Dolan spent his boyhood years living in Conda, Soda Springs, and Preston, Idaho. He earned a scholarship at the University of Utah where he played basketball for four years and was a member of the NIT Championship team. Dolan graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the U of U and later earned his Master’s degree in Education Administration from Brigham Young University.
Although he played for the University of Utah, he became a devoted BYU Cougar fan at heart. He spent the early part of his career at Provo High School where he taught U.S. History and was the head coach of the basketball, baseball, and tennis teams. He won state championships in each sport. He loved his students and his teams.
In 1970 Dolan accepted an administrative position at Provo High School and later served as Principal at Timpview High School where he was selected Principal of the Year for the State of Utah. During his tenure as principal, Timpview High School was recognized as one of the outstanding high schools in the nation. Upon retirement as principal, he accepted a position as the Executive Director of the Secondary School Principals Association of Utah and served for four years on the organization’s national board. He was active in the Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce and the Provo Kiwanis Club.
Dolan married his eternal companion and best friend, Shirley Palmer on September 9, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. Last Sunday they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Together they shared a life of service. Dolan served as Bishop of the Pleasant View Second Ward and the BYU 72nd Ward and as Branch President at the Missionary Training Center. He and Shirley served two full-time missions and three church service missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
They are the parents of two children, Richard Condie (Kim) and Cathie Bowen (Robert). They have been blessed with eleven grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren. Dolan’s greatest treasure was his family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Cedar Hills 10th Ward Chapel, 9737 Chesterfield Drive, Cedar Hills, Utah. Family and friends may call on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Cedar Hills 10th Ward Chapel and also at an additional viewing Saturday afternoon from 12:30-1:30 pm prior to services.
